EDUCATION SECTOR: IMPROVE BASIC SCHOOLS ENVIRONMENT: CONSTRUCTION OF BASIC SCHOOLS

Zenab for women development Organization realized the importance of education as a basis for any social or economic development, many young girls and boys are deprived from primary education for many reasons whether economical/political or social and left behind as victims of illiteracy ,their general conception of changing political /social and economic variables as well as their participation in development process is minimal.

Primary education in Sudan faces a lot of complicated problems and impediments, as a result we have a high illiteracy and schools dropout rates especially.

Many factors have contributed to the deterioration in primary education sector in Sudan, among these are:

1.Lack of education infrastructures: insufficient number of built primary schools, lack of drinking water utilities, lack of toilets, rural villages are without higher secondary schools, their primary schools were built from local materials, sometimes we notice the classroom is a mere shade of a tree or conducted in the open air or under poor shelters that could not stand strong win or rains, water is brought by donkeys at certain intervals.

2.Poverty that force families to pull out their girls and boys from education at early stage to help their families in earning income by taking marginal jobs in the informal sectors.

3.Poverty that families are not able to provide their kids with daily breakfast before leaving to schools or provide them with schools uniforms or text books.

4.Social traditions prevailing at some regions that underestimate girls educationand interrupt their primary education process by early marriage(woman girl or pre-mature marriage), or reject co-education system as no separate classrooms or toilets are available for girls ,families in such case allow their daughters to continue primary education till certain grade then they pull them out and do not allow them sit side by side with boys in same classrooms beyond certain grade(up to grade fifth only).

5.Expelling schools environment due to lack of many basic education requirements.

6.Lack of economic & social infrastructure such as paved roads ,public health care units…etc which add more difficulties on education improvement specially in rural villages.

Shortage in schools teachers, in text books, seats and learning materials, teachers prefer not to go at remote rural areas due to hardship they encounter.

Zenab with support and cooperation of many thankful donors is able to change the misery of primary education on the ground at certain areas where education witnessed a remarkable deterioration, as a positive impacts hundreds of girls and boys are now having an improved education environment with convenient classrooms, toilets drinking water utilities, communities in the areas have pledged to maintain newly constructed/ rehabilitated schools ministry of education pledged to provide teachers and textbooks to new schools and Zenab Org. is looking forward to receive support to continue thework on improving education sector to enable thousands of poor girls and boys complete their primary schools and move to a higher levels of education to be empowered by education and realize their basic human rights and become real partners in development process.
